Happy holidays,

We are finishing our 13th year in Livermore, California. As the year draws to a close, it is a good time to reflect, and be thankful for the wonderful family and friends that we have in our lives.

Darryl is 21 and is a Senior in the Economics program in the Revelle College at the University of California San Diego. He will be graduating in June with a BS Economics, Management Science degree. He is living with four other guys off campus in a nice four bedroom condo in La Jolla, CA.  He is hoping to stay in the San Diego area after graduation because he enjoys the warm weather down there (or the non-weather as Dad calls it.

Brandon is 23 and is living and working in Pullman, WA. He still enjoys the rural life in Pullman. He is planning to re-enter Wahingotn State University next year to complete his Civil Engineering degree. Dana visited this fall for the annual Dad’s weekend football game. It was nice this year because it didn’t snow during the game, even though the Cougar’s lost.  Susan goes up and visits him in the spring during the WSU Mom’s weekend. This year we hope to go golfing up in Idaho together.

Susan continues to be the Pharmacy Manager at the Livermore Safeway. She obtained her Hawaii Pharmacist’s license this year.  She was in Hawaii a couple of month’s ago when they had the big earthquake on the Big Island. She has lived in California for 13 years, Oregon for 6 years and has never felt an earthquake. She goes to Hawaii for 3 weeks and gets a 7.4. She had many friends and her mom come over and visit with her while she was “working”. She continues to walk a couple of miles each day with her Livermore Walk Squad and has taken up decorating plant pots.

Dana still continues to work at Sanmina-SCI. He is the Director of Product Engineering and is responsible for the coordination of engineering. He is still on the Industry Advisory Board of the College of Engineering and Computer Science at WSU. His travel was pretty steady this year.  He spent New Year’s Eve on an American Airlines flight off of the coast of Japan heading for Singapore via Tokyo. Now that he’s been to the Beijing China area, he can eliminate that from our potential retirement sites. There is a lack of electricity in that region, so the factories are not heated or air condition. The plant in Wuxi got up to 42 degrees INSIDE while he was there. No employee space heaters are allowed. Thus, everyone is at their computers typing with gloves and coats on. China is an interesting place right now. You can see the old ways and the new Western ways starting to emerge and conflict. He did a test on Google and verified that the internet is heavily censored there. He continues to donate golf balls to courses and still looks forward to breaking 100 on a consistent basis (more than once per year). He continues to be a diehard Oakland Raider and WSU Cougar fan. Unfortunately, they will be saving us money on post-season tickets again this year….

Our big trip this year was to pick-up Susan’s new BMW in Munich at the BMW Werks Plant 1. We went there in March via London and drove the car across Germany (it only took a couple of hours at 90 – 100 MPH on the Autobahn).  We spent a couple of days in Munich and then drove over to the Rhine river area west of Frankfurt. We stayed in some very interesting hotels/lodges. We took a ferry across the Rhine river because the navigation system gave us a rout for the”shortest” distance. We had the best meals that we have had anywhere in the world at an old hunting lodge outside of Rüdesheim. Susan got to see many old castles and get pictures of them. We then stayed in Karlsrühe and had dinner with one of the people that Dana works with. Then we returned the car to BMW shipper and waited until May to get it. BMW made it a wonderful experience and we would recommend it to anyone.

Please come and visit us if you are in the San Francisco/San Jose area and visit our website. We still continue to get contacts from Korf’s all over the world.
